Ramp Project FlyerStopGap Ramp Project Application
The Town of Fort Erie’s Accessibility Advisory Committee, in partnership with the StopGap Foundation, are working to increase accessibility in the Town of Fort Erie.
In 2023, a pilot project took place in the Ridgeway and Crystal Beach area, with nine businesses successfully applying for a StopGap temporary ramp to allow access into their building that had a single front step that created a barrier for some. In 2024 Council approved additional funding to open the project up to all Fort Erie businesses and applications are now open. The ramps are placed temporarily in order to access the building and then brought back in so as not to impede pedestrian traffic. Signage will be provided to businesses and contact information provided in order to notify the business that the ramp is needed.
By entering into an agreement with StopGap Foundation, a ramp is then designed specifically for your entry way. This does not trigger any other accessibility requirements as the ramp is made available on a temporary basis.
The Town recognizes that preventing new barriers, reducing and removing existing barriers, and enhancing access is essential to providing increased opportunities that foster independence, inclusion and dignity for people of all ages and abilities.
The StopGap Foundation’s mission aims to create a world where every person can access every space. A world free of barriers will help give everyone the opportunity to live a life full of independence, spontaneity, and ultimate fulfillment.
