FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FORT ERIE (January 29, 2025) – The Town of Fort Erie has applied to become a Bee City Community through Bee City Canada. This initiative directly aligns with the Council's dedication to environmental and climate change resiliency as identified in the Corporate Strategic Plan.
By becoming a Bee City Community, Fort Erie demonstrates its commitment to environmental stewardship and the protection of pollinator populations, ensuring a vibrant and sustainable future for all. By fostering pollinator habitats, we aim to create a healthier ecosystem that benefits residents and local wildlife.
Fort Erie will support pollinators through various initiatives that enhance biodiversity and promote sustainable practices. Our efforts focus on creating and maintaining pollinator-friendly habitats, including the planting of native wildflowers and the preservation of natural spaces. Through partnerships with local organizations, schools, and businesses, we will work to educate residents on the vital role pollinators play in maintaining a healthy ecosystem.
Community involvement is a priority, with steps being taken to encourage residents to participate in planting native species and adopting pollinator-friendly practices at home.
Bee Communities:
There's four generations of beekeepers in my family. For me, personally, sitting on Council to have a Bee City designation happen while I'm here, It's really cool. Bees are super important to life on earth. For the investment, it's a great program."
- Councillor Dubanow (Ward 2)
I'm excited about becoming a Bee City (town) in order to protect and preserve our natural heritage. We are the preeminent community in Niagara in terms of environmental protection, and this helps us to continue on that path. I'm very pleased about this."
- Mayor Wayne Redekop
