Cooling Spaces


Cooling spaces are available in Fort Erie during extreme heat. Anyone seeking shelter from episodes of extreme heat can visit cooling spaces throughout the town.

Leisureplex Cooling Center (3 Municipal Centre Drive)
The Leisureplex is available by appointment during regular business hours. Please call 905-871-1600 for more information. Visitors will be required to complete a screening test prior to entering the facility.

Fort Erie Public Library
The Fort Erie Public Library is available for those needing a place to stay cool. Residents are encouraged to call ahead so staff can accommodate as needed.

    • Hours: Monday to Wednesday from 11am to 5pm; Thursday from noon to 6pm; and, Saturday from 10am to 2pm

Spray Pads
Spray pads are open from dusk until dawn. Families who visit Fort Erie spray pads are being asked to follow all recommended health and safety guidelines such as physical distancing from others (2 meters / 6 feet) and staying home if they are feeling ill. Spray pads are not monitored by Town staff.

Bay Beach (4155 Erie Road)
Bay Beach (also known as Crystal Beach) is closed to anyone without a Fort Erie resident season pass. Fort Erie resident season passes for Bay Beach in 2020 are available for pick-up Monday to Friday from 10am to noon at the Leisureplex. For more information, visit https://baybeach.forterie.ca.

  • Open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Please do not attend any cooling space, and contact public health if you:

  • Have had close contact with anyone with acute respiratory illness or travelled outside of Canada in the past 14 days.
  • Have a confirmed case of COVID-19 or had close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19.
  • Have any of the following symptoms: fever, new onset of cough, worsening chronic cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, sore throat, difficulty swallowing, decrease or loss of sense of taste or smell, chills, headaches, unexplained fatigue/malaise/muscle aches (myalgias), nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, pink eye (conjunctivitis), runny nose/nasal congestion without other known cause.
